Yesterday the City of Brotherly Love announced that it was reimposing its mask mandate for people participating in commerce and school. Why? Because just as Tony Two Masks predicted — COVID-19 IS ON THE MARCH!
Philadelphia Public Health Commissioner, Dr. Cheryl Bettigole, announced yesterday that the city will return to requiring masks in all public places because there has been a 50% increase in cases in just one week. That’s right a 50% increase — one week ago there were 94 new cases and this week 142 were reported.
Philadelphia proper has a population of 1,603,797 people (2021 data) which means that yesterday 0.0089% of them were reported to have COVID-19 which means that the remaining 99.9911% must mask. HOWEVER, Philadelphia is a busy place and it has suburbs. The population of the Philadelphia metropolitan area is about 5,756,000 which means that this decision is based on 142 cases out of 5,756,000 people or 0.0025% then of course there are visitors and those who are just passing through.
Fauci warned that this next wave of COVID-16 was coming and Dr. Bettigole made it happen. This should come as no surprise. Meet Dr. Bettigole.
Cheryl Bettigole earned an MS in anthropology from the University of Chicago and her MD from Thomas Jefferson University. Upon her appointment to Philadelphia Public Health Commissioner in 2021 Bettigole offered these goals for her tenure:
”Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop a strong approach to racism as a public health problem, including the hiring of a Chief Racial Equity Officer and the creation of a health equity plan for the department.
Build the department’s work on gun violence prevention.
Improve access to primary healthcare.
Build on what we have learned from the pandemic to develop updated and equity-focused preparedness and emergency response plans.
Address the findings of the investigation of the Medical Examiner’s Office and the mishandling of the remains of the MOVE victims once those findings are received.
Dr. Bettigole is excited to build on the work that she has been doing as Acting Commissioner and implement these new priorities.”
Apparently, Dr. Bettigole didn’t learn how to follow the science with respect to SARS-CoV-2 all through the “pandemic” because if she had she wouldn’t have panicked over 142 cases of COVID-19 out of more than 5,700,000 people in the Philly Metro Area. To add further mystery to this decision Dr. Bettigole had this to offer:
“I suspect that this wave will be smaller than the one we saw in January,” she said. “But if we wait to find out and to put our masks back on, we’ll have lost our chance to stop the wave.”
So based on her experience with the Omicron driven “wave” in January of this year Dr. Bettigole has constructed an April policy of containment in anticipation of a mask controllable new wave. But Bettigole has a couple of problems with her proactive policy. First, 75% of all SARS-CoV-2 is now comprised of the BA.2 strain which has been dramatically increasing in frequency for three months — which puts us roughly back to January. Second, Bettigole appears to be the only person in America who still believes that the surgical mask or cloth boutique offering will stop SARS-CoV-2 in its tracks:
“By wearing masks consistently, we can continue to go about our daily lives and continue to take part in the life of our city without contributing to increasing transmission of Covid-19,” Bettigole said.
Fauci predicts a wave, Pelosi tests positive but has an “asymptomatic” COVID case, and in Philadelphia 142 people sneezed yesterday and today 5,669,868 people have to put on a mask.
And THAT ladies and gentlemen is how a public health official becomes a fear mongering, political toady. At least we can rest assured that her response plan and fear distribution will be equitable.
