Between April 22, 2024 and July 1, 2024 I wrote a series of articles that focused on politics in Boone County, Kentucky. The original purpose of the first several News Letters was to inform local voters whom I reach by reposting on several FaceBook pages, about the candidates for two important state offices; House District 60 and Senate District 11. I wrote the first several articles so that I could gain and share some insight as to why the two incumbents, Marianne Proctor, HR60 and Steve Rawlings SD11 were facing party opposition in the primary election.
The scope soon spread to include several other candidates who were on the primary ballots in other areas of Northern Kentucky. Inevitably, I found myself asking who is supporting those new candidates who were trying to unseat successful and well liked incumbents. The answer was the Commonwealth’s health care industry and its desire to protect the Certificate of Need. That series is now collected in the Section: The Boone County Papers.
Now we are facing a general election with a surprise candidate for the democrat nomination for President of the United States, Vice President Kamala Harris. IF Harris becomes the official presidential candidate of the democrat party she will need to choose a running mate. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is said to be high on her list of possible choices. Andy Beshear will be the subject of the News Letter of Larry’s Letter and it will appear in this new Section. It is my hope that you will understand why Boone County politics is important to our national political conversation.
Andy Beshear is a Democrat in what has rapidly become a mostly Red State. The primary question to answer is this: What does Beshear bring to the table that MAY draw some moderate and slightly left of center republicans to vote for a Harris-Beshear ticket. More importantly, is Andy Beshear who he says he is?
