Just Another Day On The InterWebs Filled With An Unwillingness For Personal Fact Checking

The occasion of this photograph taken in the White House was the President’s announcement of a new joint venture that is being undertaken by the private sector. Notice the emphasis. Please. That joint venture is the construction - over a number of years — of AI facilities in the US.

This how the main stream media is casting this announcement: Trump announces up to $500 billion in private sector AI infrastructure investment. The implication is clear: Trump is committing $500 B to select members of the private sector to build AI facilities (I’ll get into the “why” later). This is the reality: No he is not.

This is what is really happening: “Executives from the companies are expected to commit $500 billion into Stargate over the next four years.” Not the American People, “Executives from the companies”. In fact the project is already underway: “In the briefing, Ellison said 10 data centers for the project were already under construction in Texas, and that more were planned.” Ellison is Oracle’s Executive Chairman, Larry Ellison.

ONE of the example projects that was discussed was using the power of these computing centers to create a personalized cancer vaccine for each cancer victim using cancer cells from that person’s own blood to make a vaccine based on mRNA technology made possible by mapping cancer cell DNA and producing mRNA from those specific cells that will be used to produce antibodies specific to each individual’s own cancer.

It is not as Dr. Robert Malone and others have railed a way to produce a universal vaccine that will be forced on everyone.

Regarding AI-driven rapid development of universal genetic vaccines

I could write a long essay on the complex molecular immunology of antigen processing and presentation via Class I and Class II Major Histocompatibility Complex proteins, and the diversity of MHC in the (outbred) human species, but most readers would clock out, and those that could really understand it already know all about this. I am quite confident that Larry Ellison does not, and also confident that Larry Ellison is yet another tech bro who does not let his ignorance get in the way of promoting his opinions. Why is it that so many successful Silicon Valley leaders think that their success in the IT space translates directly into broad expertise in other areas? And why do politicians and “public health officials” keep allowing themselves to be influenced by these poseurs? Is it just about the money?

THIS is what Larry Ellison really said — courtesy of Elon Musk and his best friend, Grok.

“Larry Ellison, the chairman of Oracle, has discussed the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in developing personalized mRNA vaccines for cancer treatment. Here's what he has said on the topic:

• Early Cancer Detection: Ellison highlighted that AI can be used to detect cancer through analyzing blood tests for tiny tumor fragments, suggesting that this could lead to early cancer detection. He mentioned that AI could analyze these tests to identify cancers that pose a serious threat to an individual's health.

• Personalized mRNA Vaccines: Once cancer is detected and the tumor's genetic sequence is known, Ellison proposed that AI could design an mRNA vaccine tailored to each individual's cancer. This would involve producing these vaccines robotically, with the process taking about 48 hours. The idea is that these vaccines would train the immune system to recognize and attack the specific cancer cells of each patient.”(Emphasis Added)

Q: Just how far fetched is this?

A: Not in the least.

I know this because several times a year my wife and I travel to Tijuana, Mexico to the Oasis of Hope Hospital so that she can get boosters of a dendritic cell vaccine that was originally derived from circulating cancer cells in her blood but is now being made from tumor cells obtained from a biopsy sample preserved in a paraffin block, a procedure about two large steps away from what Larry Ellison is proposing. That vaccine has turned this:

My wife’s metastatic breast cancer continues to be regarded as “stable” by both the Oncologist in Tijuana and her local Oncologist.

Personal vaccines are a reality. Whether mRNA generated by reading an individual’s cancer genome is the future can and should be discussed.

Aaron Siri will insist that some measure of verification of safety be performed but that verification requires the understanding that such testing is well beyond the limits of the infamous randomized double blind control study.

Which brings me to Mr. Musk. You’re not off the hook either. Mr. Musk also railed at the idea of the Stargate project and chided Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son for not having $500B cash on hand. Here’s Mr. Musk’s problem; Mr. Son never said that he did. In fact, two things were made clear. First one such complex is currently under construction in Texas and second, this a multiyear project. $500B is not required up front.

IF we are going to have a public debate about public health matters OR even individual health care choices it is imperative that we all begin with the same set of facts. As Patrick Moynihan offered: “Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts.”
