THE SWITCH HAS BEEN FLIPPED. THE LIGHTS ARE ON. THE COCKROACHES ARE RUNNING TO THE DARK.
Never Again Will Our Government Be Trusted Nor Should It Be.
THE LAMP OF TRUTH HAS BEEN LIT.
Almost four years ago David Zweig introduced his piece in the New Yorker with this:
“Ever since I joined Twitter, nearly seven years ago, I’ve wrestled with what has always felt like a shameful interest in all those prominently displayed numbers. I’ve evaluated people I don’t know on the basis of their follower counts, judged the merit of tweets according to how many likes and retweets they garnered, and felt the rush of being liked or retweeted by someone with a large following. These metrics, I know, are largely irrelevant; since when does popularity predict quality? Yet, almost against my will, they exert a pull on me. Twitter trains its users to see numbers as currency, like so many lab rats craving reward pellets.
So, it’s worth asking: What if the numbers disappeared? How would it feel to use Twitter then?”
Two days ago David Zweig became the fifth beneficiary of Elon Musks access to the so-called Twitter Files. Unlike Matt Taibbi, Bari Weiss, Lee Fang, and Michael Schellenberger, Zweig broke down the gates that guarded the role of the federal government writ large and the Twitter elites who conspired with them to shape the debate, obfuscate the data, and prevent “The Science” of SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 from being told.
Four years ago Mr. Zweig had a blinding flash of insight: What if we viewed Twitter on the merits of its content and not the number of “likes” a post garnered or “followers” a poster had acquired? Zweig concluded:
”The personal numbers dehumanize us; in a society increasingly run by algorithms, we are, inevitably, beginning to function like algorithms ourselves. It’s going to take top-down, systemic changes to thwart that slide on a grand scale. Removing visible metrics shouldn’t be an extension; it should be a system upgrade.”
Four years later and after having been given access to the inner workings of Twitter and its landed gentry Zweig would discover how completely bogus those metrics were.
The metrics that Zweig were so concerned with in 2018 were meaningless and they became more meaningless with the onset of COVID-19 and a public health component of the federal government with a ravenous appetite for controlling the narrative not for the purpose of providing accurate information but rather for the sole purpose of suppressing it. Zweig’s conclusion after detailing examples of Twitter’s assault on the truth is made by a man who had an honest and open look into a room that many of us had entered three years ago, one year after Zweig wondered what Twitter would be like without the phony metrics. Today David Zweig wonders what the world would be like if Twitter, Facebook, and the Legacy Media had not conspired with a dictatorial federal government to push a strictly political agenda and suppress the truth.
All of us who have been writing on Substack about COVID and other topics which are “unpopular” on social media have lived for years with what Zweig has just discovered: the truth has been suppressed for political purposes and that suppression has killed people.
Elon Musk has chosen wisely in his selection of writers to reveal how a group of social media companies with a global reach have willingly and happily conspired with a government that shows concern only for its own advancement and not that of those it governs. They have conspired to suppress the truth about SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19.
Matt Taibbi, Bari Weiss, Lee Fang, Michael Schellenberger, and David Zweig have done their jobs well and they are owed our gratitude for presenting complex information with simplicity, clarity, and objectivity. If nothing else they have taken a step in restoring faith that a corrupt Fourth Estate can be redeemed.
THE COCKROACHES ARE RUNNING FOR THE DARK.
Yesterday the World Economic Forum showed us who they are. Following Zweig’s Twitter tour de force they called for all members to leave Twitter.
In my last Letter on Twitter File 8 I opened and closed with this:
