The Blob.

Recently but not for the first time I had a conversation about abortion in which the person I was interacting with referred to a baby very early in its development as “just a blob of cells”. That “blob” begins here and Mike and Joelle’s little idiot that asked for directions can be seen has bright spot on the upper left quadrant of the mothers egg. A new life begins here.
In that instant when that 1 sperm out of 180,000,000 meets the only egg that is available and before development begins the very second miracle occurs. The DNA, that complex double helix that contains all the information that makes dad who he is and the DNA that makes mom who she is, unwind into single stands. Those single strands; one from mom and one from dad, with precision and accuracy recombine into a new double helix of base pairs to create a third, new person similar to but entirely different from either mom or dad. It is a person that shares their likeness. It happens at the moment depicted above. In that instant of unwinding and recombining of DNA gender is determined. And just to be clear the determined gender is and will always be inviolate. Over the entire life of Billy or Betty no matter what they do they will never change their gender determinant genes from what they are at birth.
Not a “Blob”.
This called a blastocyst and it is an intentional collection of still rapidly dividing AND differentiating cells. Even at this stage one group of cells is either Billy or Betty and another group is the placenta that will attach to the uterine wall and provide Billy or Betty with all the nutrition and oxygen that they need while they continue to develop in their mother’s womb.
The new DNA in its new cell has begun doubling - rapidly and with a purpose according the plan it carries. It is an intentional process and the result of that purposeful, intentional plan is a new human being.
That is “the science”.
How did that science happen? Was it a result of a random lightening strike in an ocean of random chemical substances that were forced by the energy of the lightning to combine into something that led to an organism that randomly made DNA which sometimes made an animal and sometimes made a plant? Or was it by an act of creation by God?
From a scientific point of view — at least mine — evolution makes no sense. It makes no sense on several levels. First, it begins with a random occurrence and it depends on other random and sometimes (at least theoretically) directed mutations. Second it results in a diversity of life that is only partially understood and makes little sense. And here is just one reason why. IF evolution is true why do we not see new lifeforms develop after each and every lightening strike? And there’s more.
IF evolution relies on mutations why have humans not changed? Why are trees still the same? Why are animals no different today than when they were first described thousands of years ago? Then there’s this bonus question. After dinosaurs were finally extinguished from the earth why were they replaced by completely different life forms? After all if evolution is a constant shouldn’t new life develop according to the same pathway? Evolution does require constant change. Evolution requires that subsequent iterations of a “thing” differ in form and function. Dinosaurs, however, were gone and, therefore, evolution had stopped. But after their demise an entirely different series of plants and animals arrived. How?
There is no reason for an evolutionary process to stop because evolution relies on constantly mutating DNA — but constantly mutating DNA is a process never observed in humans, animals or plants.
Creation results in different human beings because of different attributes but not different form or function. Those different attributes are the result of a recombination of DNA from two different parents and not as a result of genetic mutation.
Like it or not; THIS makes sense - scientific sense:
“26Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:26-27
And so does this:
“28God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Genesis 1:28
One final word about “likeness” and “image”. Only God is perfect in form and function. We are but a mere and poor likeness that resembles him.
