WHICH KENTUCKY GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE IS HOLDING THE TRULY EXTREME POSITION ON ABORTION?
Here's A Hint. Its Not Daniel Cameron.
I received this in mail yesterday from the Kentucky Democratic Party. It purports to paint AG Daniel Cameron, candidate for Kentucky governor as holding "extreme positions on abortion" which include:
No exceptions for vitiates of rape or incest.
No exceptions for non-viable pregancies.
Believes children who become pregnant should be forced to carry their pregnancy to term.
Demanded access to the confidential and private medical records of Kentucky women.
The mailer provides citations to various media reports so I decided to look at AG Camerons stated position on abortion in Kentucky. Here it is in his own words (October 25, 2023).
Q:Do you support Kentucky’s current laws, as written, that ban abortion in nearly all cases? What, if any, changes would you recommend to these laws, in terms of when and in what cases abortion should be allowed or prohibited?
A:I support the Human Life Protection Act, but if the situation in Kentucky were to change and the legislature brought me a bill to add exceptions for rape and incest, I would, of course, sign it.
As Attorney General, Daniel Cameron is obligated by law to enforce the law. So precisely what does the Human Life Protection Act say?
Protecting the Life of a Mother
“The Human Life Protection Act does not prohibit abortion when a licensed physician determines in his or her “reasonable medical judgment” that such a procedure is necessary to protect the life of a pregnant mother. KRS 311.772(4)(a). More specifically, a licensed physician can knowingly perform an abortion to prevent a pregnant mother’s death, substantial risk of death due to a physical condition, or a serious, permanent impairment to a life-sustaining organ.”
As for the other assertions by Governor Beshear that it is AG Camerons position that there be no exception for victims of rape or incest AG Cameron is legally bound to enforce the law but the Human Life Protection Act is silent on this matter as it is on non-viable pregnancies which generally result in miscarriages and on the issue of a minors pregnancy. In short Andy Beshear is not telling the truth about Daniel Camerons position on Kentucky’s Human Life Protection Act which again he obligated by law to enforce.
Here is Daniel Cameron again on the issue of Kentucky’s Human Life Protection Act:
"I'm 100% pro-life and want to make sure that we do everything we possibly can here to protect the lives of the unborn, and so we've been defending this Human Life Protection Act in court."
And here is probably the most important fact that came form Cameron’s Newsmax interview:
“Cameron, a GOP candidate for governor in Kentucky, noted that 19 Democrats in the state House and Senate voted for the bill's passage, so it expressed the values of Kentucky that "we're going to stand up and protect life."
In addition, there are crisis protection centers in the state that "reflect the values of our citizens" and that pregnant women are supported.” (emphasis added)
The Human Life Protection Act passed the state legislature in 2019 with the proviso that it would not take effect until Roe v. Wade was overturned which happened in 2022. In 2019 when the law was passed the composition of the Kentucky House was 61 Republicans and 39 Democrats; the state Senate was comprised of 28 Republicans and 10 Democrats for a total of 49 Democrats in the state Legislature. In other words 39% of all Democrats voted to pass the Human Life Protection Act.
It seems that is Andy Beshear who is out of touch with his own party and the people of Kentucky.
For Kentucky for Trump, Beshear’s misstatement of Cameron’s record and position on abortion and other issues represents politics of the past, the kind found deep in the swamp of Washington, D.C. and far from the rolling hills of Kentucky.
Attorney General Daniel Cameron is the clear choice to be Kentucky’s next governor.
