Democrats and Thomas Massie have a choice. They can either find a way to work with Donald Trump AND the People who voted for him to right this ship or they can continue to be part of the problem by dividing this country over ideologies that make little sense. The position of the democrats which was once almost understandable has reached a level of the Theater of the Absurd. Thomas Massie's position throughout the Trump presidencies have been no different.
For a man who allegedly represents the interest of his constituents whom he rarely if ever visits and who are unabashedly pro-Trump and Christian he finds odd ways in which to reject both. While he is busily disparaging a president whose endorsement he flaunts he ignores his own failure to manage public funds under his control by giving his staff bonuses;
“Why would personnel costs suddenly jump more than $15,000 in the 4th Quarter? Because Mr. Massie, “Mr. No”. Mr. small government; gave his staff bonuses.
Is this a matter of routine? No it is not. For example, Julia Letlow (R) LA actually spent a bit more than $36,000 less on personnel costs in Qt. 4. And Brett Guthrie the only Democrat Representative in Kentucky, spent about $5,000.00 less for his personnel costs in the 4th Qt than he spent on average for Qts. 1-3.”
A REMINDER OF WHERE HYPOCRISY RESIDES
Thomas Massie (R) KY-4 is at it again doing his best to save the nation from those he deems to be wasteful spenders and apparently personal enemies. This is Thomas Massie writing on X yesterday:
The last time Thomas crossed President Trump over his endorsement of Mike Johnson for Speaker of the House he lost a committee assignment. We don’t send people to Congress to spend our money giving bonuses to their staff while demanding extreme fiscal constraint out of everyone else. Nor do we send them to Congress to lose an important committee seat. Or to reject the efforts of the only president we have seen in our lifetime who is trying to do exactly what Thomas always uncompromisingly insists be done.
A SHOT ACROSS THE BOW --- FIRE RETURNED
A “shot across the bow” is a metaphor for a warning. But what happened to Thomas Massie was far beyond routine warning. Yesterday Massie was removed from the House Rules Committee just days after he openly rebelled against President Trump — again — as he sought to prevent Speaker Johnson from retaining his position for not being the type of Representati…
This time around Massie is at odds with President Trump over his vitriolic refusal to support a hard won Continuing Resolution (CR) that will fund the remaining fiscal year allowing Trump some breathing room while he continues to restrain government expansion and curb spending while eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse. Here is what Mr. Massie had to say about the efforts of the President his staff and Speaker Johnson:
“Unless I get a lobotomy Monday that causes me to forget what I’ve witnessed the past 12 years, I’ll be a NO on the CR this week. It amazes me that my colleagues and many of the public fall for the lie that we will fight another day."
But THIS is what Mr. Massie didn’t want to talk about or even acknowledge:
The CR cuts funding for nondefense programs and services by $13 billion while increasing defense spending by $6 billion compared to fiscal year 2024 enacted levels. It cuts nondefense funding by $15 billion and defense by $3 billion relative to the fiscal year 2025 levels in the Fiscal Responsibility Act agreement.
That’s right Thomas Massie is rejecting a budget agreement that contains $25B in cuts over the 2024 budget and the 2025 budget request.
Ask Mr. Massie when the last time was that he saw a CR that contained even $1.00 in budget cuts let alone $25,000,000,000.
Of those “12 years” Donald Trump was president for only four all of which he spent fending off manufactured scandals, baseless impeachment attempts, and a RINO filled Congress. Massie can be included among those who refused to support the President going so far as to blame the President for the events of January 6, 2020.
Here is the president's response to Massie’s most recent display of arrogance:
There are a couple of points to be made here. First, the entire Freedom Caucus of which Massie is a member, wasn’t persuaded by him to follow his lead. Second, President Trump compared Massie to Liz Cheney. Third, the President’s statement in reference to Massie: “HE SHOULD BE PRIMARIED”.
In support of Mr. Massie, Senator Mike Lee offered this:
"I have nothing but profound respect for @RepThomasMassie, who has worked harder than perhaps any member of Congress to bring federal spending under control," Lee wrote on X. "He might vote differently on this matter than most, but if he does so he’ll have a really good reason," the senator continued. "I’m a huge fan”.
Sorry to disappoint the good Senator but Thomas didn’t have a good reason for his no vote. Nor did he have a good reason for this 2022 vote:
“The House voted 420-to-1 on Wednesday on a symbolic, seven-page resolution that calls on the government to do all it can protect Jewish individuals and organizations, to combat denials and distortions about the Holocaust, and to defend the rights of all Americans to practice their faith without fear of violence. Even The Squad, often criticized for votes that are seen as insufficiently supportive of Israel if not anti-Semetic, voted for the resolution.
Massie’s team pointed to this tweet (from 2022) to explain the Congressman’s thinking:
“I don’t hate anyone based on his or her ethnicity or religion. Legitimate government exists, in part, to punish those who commit unprovoked violence against others, but government can’t legislate thought.
This bill promoted internet censorship and violations of the 1st amendment.”
I wonder if Mr. Massie views the current violence and bigotry occurring on the campus of Columbia University as just one more expression of the First Amendment.
Who would think that Kentucky would be home to both Mitch McConnell and Thomas Massie, neither of whom represent the views of the majority of their constituents.
